We will continuously update this article as new information becomes available, including announcements from Italian universities regarding pre-enrollment procedures for non-EU applicants, as well as official communications from the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) on the IMAT 2026 test date, syllabus, and any other relevant admission requirements. LATEST NEWS: IMAT 2026 date announced

The Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has officially confirmed that the IMAT will be held on Wednesday, September 30th.

Despite what some online sources might state, the 2026 IMAT is NOT on October 8th. The Ministry had previously announced the October date, but the latest decree clearly states that the IMAT will take place on the 30th of September.

IMAT 2026 Syllabus: still pending

The test's official format and content have not yet been released and will be defined by a separate ministerial decree.

Pre-Enrollment deadlines

First of all, what is pre-enrollment?

Pre-enrollment is a mandatory administrative procedure for most non-EU students residing outside Italy who wish to apply for an English-taught Medicine and Surgery degree in Italy. Through this process, applicants officially declare the Italian university they intend to apply to and submit the required documentation through the Italian government's online portal, Universitaly, before completing the visa application at their local Italian embassy or consulate.

Each university sets its own pre-enrollment timeline and may request additional documents or procedures. Because deadlines and requirements vary from one institution to another, it is essential for applicants to monitor the instructions published by their chosen university. Throughout the IMAT 2026 application cycle, we will update this page with the latest pre-enrollment information as soon as each university releases its official guidance. Keep in mind that pre-evaluation is not admission: a positive evaluation only grants eligibility to complete subsequent steps. Ultimate admission depends entirely on your competitive IMAT score.

Here is a list of the currently announced pre-enrollment deadlines:

BARI

• Non-EU Applicants requiring a VISA: Deadline to submit applications is 30 June 2026 (Applies to students requiring a Type D study visa).
• EU & EU-Equivalent Applicants: Deadline to submit applications is 30 September 2026 (Includes European citizens and eligible Italian residence permit holders).
• Marco Polo & Protection Status Applicants: Deadline to submit applications is 30 September 2026 (Applies to Chinese nationals under the Marco Polo project and applicants holding recognized refugee/protection status in Italy).

CATANIA

• Pre-Enrollment Deadline: 31 July 2026.
• English Language Certificate: Required to complete the pre-enrollment process.
• Declaration of Value (DoV) / CIMEA Statement of Comparability: Not required at this stage.

MARCHE (MED-TECH)

Pre-evaluation opens beginning from the 3rd call. Applications must be submitted simultaneously on both the official UNIVPM portal and the Universitaly portal.

MESSINA

Applications Close: 20 July 2026

You must complete applications across two separate systems (the official UniME portal and the Universitaly platform). All required academic and identity documents must be uploaded during submission. If you plan to apply, gather and translate your documents early to prevent processing bottlenecks.

PAVIA

The online pre-enrollment application on the global Universitaly portal must be submitted in full by August 31, 2026.
