RANKING ORDER
The IMAT 2024 National Ranking List has just been released, and we’ve already analyzed it for you.
In this article, you’ll find everything you need to know about the latest rankings, including key insights and what they mean for your future plans.
Here’s what we have covered:
To stay within the IMAT ranking for the next scrollings, it’s mandatory to confirm your interest in the blue box (seen below) on your personal Universitaly area. By confirming your interest, you are guaranteed to stay within the ranking list to wait for a place or a better one.
IT NEEDS TO BE PUSHED EVERY SINGLE SCROLLING.
Highest score → 86.60 points , obtained by a foreign candidate for the University of Milan
Last booked → 1098 th position (56.90 points)
The average for all participants is (in 2023 it was 57.66 points)
At this link, you can find the behavior of the different Universities of Medicine in English during the IMAT scrollings of 2023. These are just the most significant scrollings, one for each October week and then each month.
PREMISES:
Waiver rates
IMAT has always had a waiver rate of more than 50% from the beginning (especially for those who sold out, not confirming their interest); therefore, scrollings have always been very substantial.
This phenomenon has always been particularly evident; however, this year and last, we believe that many Italian applicants who had sat for the Italian Medicine test and didn’t get the results they hoped for, embarked on this second chance.
Things may, therefore, change this year regarding dropout rates.
The first data that jumps out is the following: a drastic increase in the number of candidates who scored above 20, thus entering the rankings (5609 in 2024 vs 3467 in 2023) . Against this increase, two consequential findings are highlighted: the average score was lower than last year’s average (44.90 in 2024 vs 57.66 in 2023) . This might indicate an overall greater difficulty of this year’s test compared to IMAT 2023. However, this is belied by the significantly higher minimum score than last year’s (56.90 in 2024 vs 34.90 in 2023 ), which suggests instead a lower difficulty.
How should we interpret this apparent contradiction? Considering the current situation, it seems likely that the test was indeed easier: for candidates adequately prepared for this type of test, it was relatively easy to bring home a high score.
How, then, can we explain the lowering of the average? Due to the greater number of Italian candidates who entered the rankings, who may have failed to score as well as they’d hoped on the Italian Medicine test. Since, however, the preparation required for IMAT (notion-based) significantly differed from that required for its Italian counterpart (mnemonic-based), these candidates scored lower overall, unable to compete with those who had devoted themselves solely to IMAT preparation.
That said, we can make some observations about the individual venues: Milan recorded a number of assigned candidates equal to the number of available seats (54 assigned, 0 booked), already heading, potentially, to a close. Others are found to have fewer than 10 booked:
Look at your position and the last useful position* of entry at the first assignment for the University — or Universities — you’re interested in, meaning those that you would like to reach, the highest in your preference list.

Calculate the distance from your position and the last position of your preferred University:
This depends on the amounts of waivers (that is not entirely predictable) and the order of your choices. If you’re in doubt, you can ask for our counselling by following the instructions on our last page.
It really depends on the number of waivers (which is not entirely predictable), your choices, and the order in which you make them. From here on, our personalized counseling service, along with our competence and experience in the matter, comes into play.
Be Careful: Since the ranking has not been prematurely cut off in the last years, we suppose that even this year, the scrollings will go on until the places are exhausted. Consequently, our predictions are projected until summer 2025.
Overall, we believe it makes sense to wait for a place until the end of the first semester or a bit after (March, April tops); however, here, the personal choices of the single candidates come into play that we will eventually discuss through counselling.
Furthermore:
The 2023 tables will also help you understand the behaviour of the national ranking in the short, middle and long term.
Therefore, after all these considerations, we can affirm that:
For MEDICINE : We believe the Medicine Universities might reach the 1250- 1550 th position in the official ranking list (possible minimum score 55.3 ).
For DENTISTRY : We believe the Dentistry Universities might reach the 2950 th -1250 th position in the national ranking by the end of summer 2025.
Due to this, we will not accept, for now, counselling requests for those over the 1550 th position. LIST OF THE LAST USEFUL POSITIONS – FIRST ASSIGNMENT

HOW TO ASK FOR PERSONALISED COUNSELLING
You can ask for our personal ranking counselling service on the IMAT 2024 ranking list EXCLUSIVELY at this link at a given time (before 5 p.m. and after the end of the available places, the survey will be closed):
Therefore, counselling will not always be open to all, but only to the first ones to ask for them since we have a limited number of requests. This number will vary depending on our availability to answer everyone with the highest precision and punctuality. We will try to take roughly a hundred requests each week, especially in the “hottest” periods.
Also, please remember that this service is available only for EU candidates and non-EU ones living in Italy; other candidates will be part of a ranking list given by the single universities that are not characterised by any scrolling.
Our counselling service will open once a week , the same day as each scrolling of the Italian Medicine ranking list.
Once you ask for our counselling, you may ask for an update on your situation ONLY once every 2-3 scrollings (or in any case in the timing we will give you), NOT every single one. In fact, single situations usually don’t change from one week to the next.
If we tell you to contact us again in 4-5 or 6-7 scrollings, further requests until then will be ignored. To contact us after the first counselling, you must NOT pass through the link on this page, but you must reply to the original email the day of that scrolling: you will have time until 10.00 pm. You will always be informed on our page about the opening of our counselling service.
For IMAT, we will only give personalised counselling to the candidates WITHIN position 1550 . Requests for counselling through every other channel (Email – Facebook – Registered mail – our doorbell) from candidates over position 1550 and NON-EU students living abroad will be ignored.
That’s all folks,
